The Vinyl Skyway

A creation of singer/songwriters Michael Hayes and Andy Santospago, the Vinyl Skyway got its first break in 2004 when KCRW's Morning Becomes Eclectic played "Elvis Costello" and "Rich Blood". In 2007, the Vinyl Skyway released a critically acclaimed sophomore album entitled "From Telegraph Hill". It was described by the Boston Globe as "a headphone record of exquisitely crafted pop" and hailed as one of the year's best. The band took a hiatus late in 2008, as lead singer Michael Hayes entered into fatherhood. Despite a three year absence from performing with the band, Hayes and Santospago continued to craft new songs (the latter released solo album "Shiny Bombs" in May of 2011). Santospago earned a degree from Berklee College of Music. And in 2010, the itch to record another album was prompted by a gaggle of new songs and a successful kickstarter campaign. About 50% of the album was paid for by fans and friends.
Return of the Dead Surfer became available digitally on November 1st of 2011. After nine months of recording, 14 tracks were mixed by Paul Kolderie (Radiohead, the Pixies). The Vinyl Skyway features Michael Hayes on vocals and guitars, Andy Santospago on lead guitars and vocals, lap steel, effects, Dave Lieb on keyboards, Andy Plaisted on drums, Marc Hickox on bass. Other musicians who contributed to this record include drummer/engineer Bil Bowen, bassist Joe Klompus, guitarists David Champagne and Jim Eddy, harmony vocalists Susie Hayes Gordon, Ashley Willard, Kelly Davidson, Kelly McCann, Dave Smits (who also played tambourine/hand claps), Matthew Cox, Jerry Powers, saxophonists Annie Sklar, Scott and John Aruda, organ, farfiza & tambourine by Steve Mayone, percussion and vocals by Jonathan Perry, hand claps on Salvo by Marc Beaulieau and Olof Bridgeford. The single “Return” features Rob Pevitts and Booth Hardy on bass and drums, Jody Blackwell and Jim Hayes on harmony vocals.
This album was recorded by Bil Bowen and Karl Mogensen at Kissy Pig Recording Studio and mixed by Paul Kolderie at Mad Oak / Camp Street (assisted by Adam Hand). Additional overdubs were completed by Dan Cardinal at Dimension Sound. Bonus track “Return” was mixed by David Minehan at Woolly Mammoth Sound.

Oranjuly

Brian E. King, singer/songwriter and the man behind the Wilson-esque harmonies, melodies and lyrics of Oranjuly’s debut LP.
King’s influences, which range from the clever twists and turns of the Beach Boys and Ben Folds Five to the moodier musings of Elliot Smith, color each track on Oranjuly’s self-titled debut and have met nothing but dancing critics at their Boston shows.
Included on numerous critics' "Top Records of 2010" lists and boasting an official CMJ 2010 invite, Oranjuly is currently writing/recording their sophomore effort.
